DMSO Background:
DMSO (Dimethyl Sulfoxide) is what old-timers referred to as "liniment"; it was banned in the 1960s because it treats hundreds of conditions and Big Pharma did not want the competition.
It is still used for horses, and some athletes use it for injuries.
Recently "The Midwestern Doctor" who researches old-time remedies has been reviewing various studies and history on it. In addition to healing properties, it can provide VERY powerful pain relief. He also asserts that zero deaths from DMSO have been reported.
DMSO Usage:
When using it on the skin, it's important to remember that it's a solvent, and it will act as a transport mechanism for any chemicals on the skin, bringing them deep into the body and cells, so washing first is recommended.
It's important to note that property makes it very effective for combining with other substances to promote more effective absorption of them into the body (see references below).
It often comes in 99% or 100% proportions, and for external application should be cut down by adding (for instance) a proportion of 30% Coconut/MCT oil to it.
For some people, after applying, it causes a (not terrible but quite noticeable) burning sensation, followed by numbness. Also, it can give you a slight garlic smell.
